FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Louis XIV (1643–1715). Louis d’or with short lock of hair, 1651/44, D, Lyon. Obv. LVD. XIIII. D. G (various) FR. ET. NAV. REX. Childlike head of the King facing right, wearing a laurel wreath, with short hair; below (date). Rev. (at 12 o’clock) .CHRS. – .REGN. – .VINC. – .IMP. A cross formed of eight interlocking Ls, each arm crowned, with (mint mark) in the centre, flanked by four lilies radiating from the centre. Dy.1419 - G.244 - Clairand 33003 (date altered, not indicated) – Fr.415; Gold – 1 g – 25 mm – 6 h Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! PCGS MS62 (60895142). A rare 1651 issue struck from a 1644 die with a modified date! Featuring three different numerals above the head. Beautifully fresh with a golden patina. Superb in Mint Condition.
