FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Louis XIV (1643–1715). Gold Louis with wig and eight ‘L’s, 1687, D, Lyon. Obv. LVD. XIIII. D. G (variant) – FR. ET. NAV. REX. Aged head of the King facing right, wearing a laurel-wreathed wig; below (date). Rev. .CHRS. - .REGN. - .VINC. - .IMP. A cross formed of eight L’s joined back-to-back, each arm crowned, with (mint mark) within a heart-shaped circle, flanked by four lilies radiating from the centre. Dy.1432 – G.249 – Fr.426; Gold – 6.73 g – 23.5 mm – 6 h NGC MS 62 (6645991-001). Carefully struck, with minimal handling marks and slight wear on the high reliefs. Very slight hairline scratches.
