Louis XIV (1643–1715). Shield with eight Ls, 2nd type, with a laureate bust, 1704, A, Paris.
Obv. LVD. XIIII. D. G. – FR. ET. NAV. REX. Bust of the King facing right, laureate, draped and clad in ancient-style armour.
Rev. SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. BENEDICTVM (variant) (date). A cross formed of eight L’s joined back-to-back, each arm crowned, with three lilies arranged 2 and 1 within a heart-shaped circle, flanked by four lilies radiating from the centre.

NGC AU 58 (8772189-031).
A very slight loss of metal on the scroll at 11 o’clock. A few finishing marks and slight wear on the high reliefs. Retains its original lustre beneath a light patina. Superb.
