FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Louis XV (1715–1774). The so-called ‘Vertugadin’ coat of arms, 1718, &, Aix-en-Provence. Obv. LVD. XV. D. G. FR. ET. NAV. REX (variant). Childlike bust of the King facing right, draped and clad in armour, bareheaded; below (reformation). Rev. SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. BENEDICTVM (variant) (date). Round, crowned French shield; (mint mark) below. Dy.1651A – G.317 – Dav.1326; Silver – 30.37 g – 42 mm – 6 h From a Monnaies d’Antan 12 auction, lot 564 (€1,233 including fees), subsequently in the S. Pronzato collection. NGC AU 58 (8772189-034). All examples from 1718 are rare for this type, and none have been seen by Sobin! Re-struck in Toulouse (M). With a wide flan and in excellent condition, featuring a collector’s patina with golden highlights. Superb.
