FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Louis XV (1715–1774). Half-louis d’or with the ‘old head’ design, 1772, A, Paris. Obv. LUD. XV. D. G. FR. – ET NAV. REX. The King’s head facing left, wearing a laurel wreath, the base of the neck draped, with the signature R. FIL., below (variant). Obverse: CHRS. REGN. VINC. IMPE (variant) (date). Oval, oblique écus of France and Navarre, beneath a crown, with the mint mark below. Dy.1647 – G.331 – Fr.468; Gold – 4 g – 20 mm – 6 h From the Claouet Collection, Crédit de la Bourse, Paris, 26–28 April 1993, lot 788 (“a few known examples” – 35,000 FF + fees). PCGS Genuine Cleaned - XF Detail (45859638). Slight double strike on the obverse. Slightly scuffed. Even circulation wear. Very rare type, with only a few examples known.
