FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Louis XVI (1774–1792). Medal commemorating the King’s arrival in Paris, by B. Duvivier, 1789, Paris. Obverse: LOUIS XVI – KING OF THE FRENCH. Bust of Louis XVI facing right, with the signature ‘B. DUVIVIER F.’ below and the exergue: ‘CITY OF PARIS’. Reverse: ‘I SHALL FROM NOW ON MAKE THIS MY PERMANENT RESIDENCE’. Louis XVI in civilian clothes, followed by Marie-Antoinette holding the Dauphin by the hand; all three, bareheaded, are advancing to the right, led by the City of Paris, draped and crowned with towers, which points out to them the façade of the Tuileries, in the background to the right, in perspective, in front of which the crowd has gathered; signature DUVIV.; in the exergue: ARRIVAL OF THE KING IN PARIS / 6 OCT. 1789. Nocq 242 – Bouchet 63; Silver – 77.25 g – 52.5 mm – 12 h A chip at 2 o’clock on the edge. With a small excess of metal at 2 o’clock on the rim on the reverse. Minimal signs of wear. Attractive antique patina with golden highlights. Superb.
