Description
FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Constitution (1791–1792). 6-livre FRANÇOIS coin, 1792, 2nd half-year – Year 4, A, Paris (leopard and lyre). Obverse: LOUIS XVI KING OF THE FRENCH. Head of the King facing left, hair tied with a ribbon at the nape of the neck. Below (variant) (date). Reverse: REIGN OF THE LAW. The Genius of France engraving the word CONSTITUTION (in two lines) on a tablet of the law resting on an altar, flanked by the (variant) and a fasces on the left, and a cockerel and (mint mark) on the right. Signature ‘DUPRÉ’ engraved on the base of the altar. In the exergue: ‘THE YEAR (date) OF FREEDOM’ in two lines. G.55 - Dy.1718; Silver – 38.5 mm – 6 h NGC MS 63 (8539978-002). With a dot beneath the ‘U’ in ‘LUD’ to indicate the second half of the year. A fine strike, well-centred, with only fine adjustment marks on the reverse. Beautiful patina with bluish and golden highlights. Superb in mint condition.
