Obverse: +* FRANCISCVS* DEI* GRACIA* - BRITON* DVX (mint mark)*. The Duke on horseback, galloping to the right, sword raised, clad in armour, wearing a helmet surmounted by the ducal crown, and shielded by a shield bearing three ermine spots arranged 2 and 1; the horse’s caparison is strewn with ermine spots.
Rev. + DEVS* IN* ADIVTORIVM* MEVM* IN* TANDE (mint). A trefoil cross with leaves, with a quatrefoil in the centre, flanked by four ermine spots, within an angled quatrefoil.
Dy.334 - Jéz.386a - Fr.96; Gold - 3.38 g - 27 mm - 7 h
This is the second-highest grade (2) at PCGS [with an incorrect Friedberg reference (Fr-76)]!
PCGS AU58 (60895145).
The horse’s hind legs cut across the legend: attributed to François II. The strike on the reverse is slightly clipped, making the legend difficult to read, but the letter R is present, without stars (Ezekiel 386a). The obverse is centred and complete. Attractive golden patina. Superb / TTB to Superb.
