Obverse: LEOP. I. D. G. D. LOT. BA. REX. IE. Laureated bust facing right, with the date below.
Reverse (at 3 o’clock): TV. DO – MINE – SPES – MEA. A cross formed of two crowned shields of Bar and two crowned shields of Lorraine, flanked by four alerions.

Fine adjustment striations on the obverse with the hair slightly retouched. Weak strike in the centre of the reverse. Slightly cleaned. Very rare; Flon cites only one example in the Vinchon sale of November 1982. Very Fine.
Minted following the edict of 20 February 1717, which prescribed the minting of double gold Léopolds, gold Léopolds, half-gold Léopolds, quarter-gold Léopolds and silver Léopolds. The weight of the gold Leopold was set at 12.238 g, with a value of 37.1 livres. The half-Leopold, worth 18 livres 15 sous, was minted in a run of 15,020 in 1717.
