Description
FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Constitution (1791–1792). Half-écu of 3 livres FRANÇOIS 1792, 2nd half of the year – Year 4, A, Paris. Obverse: LOUIS XVI KING OF THE FRENCH. Head of the King facing left, hair tied with a ribbon at the nape of the neck. Below (variant) (date). Reverse: REIGN OF THE LAW. The Genius of France engraving the word CONSTITUTION (in two lines) on a tablet of the law resting on an altar, flanked by the (variant) and a fasces on the left, and a cockerel and (mint mark) on the right. Signature ‘DUPRÉ’ engraved on the base of the altar. In the exergue: ‘THE YEAR (date) OF LIBERTY’ in two lines. G.43 - Dy.1719; Silver – 14.73 g – 32.5 mm – 6 h PCGS MS62 (58337210). Only minimal handling marks and slight wear on the high reliefs. Well centred, with a light grey patina with bluish highlights. Superb in Proof condition.
