Description
FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Constitution (1791–1792). 2 sols FRANÇOIS 1791 – Year 3, A, Paris (dot). Obverse: LOUIS XVI KING OF THE FRENCH. Bust of the King facing left, bareheaded, hair tied with a ribbon at the nape of the neck, wearing a cloak fastened over the shoulder with a fibula. Below (variant) (date) (mint mark). Reverse: THE NATION, THE LAW, THE KING (variant). A bundle of rods surmounted by a Phrygian cap and flanked by two ‘S’s, between two oak branches. In the exergue: THE YEAR (date) OF LIBERTY. G.25 - Dy.1722; Copper - 24.91 g - 33 mm - 6 h PCGS MS62BN (58337213). This specimen has seen very little circulation and displays a brown patina on the fields; the original red colour remains visible around the inscriptions and reliefs. Superb in proof condition.
