Obverse: LOUIS XVI KING OF THE FRENCH. Draped bust of the King facing left, bareheaded, with his hair tied with a ribbon at the nape of the neck. Below (variant) (date) (mint mark).
Rev. THE NATION, THE LAW, THE KING. A bundle of rods topped with a Phrygian cap and flanked by 3 - D, between two oak branches. In the exergue: THE YEAR (date) OF LIBERTY.

On a fairly wide blank, the strike is slightly off-centre. The original red colour remains visible in the inscriptions, even though brown patina covers the fields. Superb in mint condition.
