Constitution (1791–1792). Trial coin of the 24-livre Louis, featuring a pike and a serpent, 1792 – Year 4, Paris.
Obverse: LOUIS XVI KING – OF THE FRENCH. Head of the King facing left, hair tied with a ribbon at the nape of the neck. Signature DUPRE (retrograde) on the neck. Below: (date) (floret).
Reverse: LIVE FREE OR DIE. Within an oak wreath, a pike surmounted by a cap of liberty, around which a serpent is coiled. In the exergue: THE YEAR (date) OF LIBERTY (floret).
G.3 (3-denier module) – Maz.217 – VG.285 (bronze); silver-plated copper – 5.51 g – 23 mm – 1 h
Edge inscription in relief: * LA NATION * [LA LOI E]T LE ROI·* (floret). The coin is struck almost in medal quality on a silver-plated copper blank (approximately 80 per cent copper and 20 per cent silver). With a module of 23 mm, this trial coin is classified by Gadoury as a 3-denier module. Slight corrosion on the obverse and even wear. Slight grey patina. Very rare. Very Good / Superb.
