FRANCE / CAPETIANS – FRANCE / ROYAL Constitution (1791–1792). Single-sided preparatory proof of the reverse of the 3-livre demi-écu, by Dupré, Year 4 (1792), Paris. Obverse: Single-sided. Reverse: REGNE DE LA LOI. The Genius of France engraving the word CONSTITUTION (in two lines) on a tablet of the law resting on an altar, flanked by a fasces on the left and a cockerel on the right. Signature ‘DUPRÉ’ engraved on the base of the altar. In the exergue: L’AN (date) DE LA / LIBERTÉ in two lines. G.cf. 43 – Maz.cf. 90 – VG.-; Pewter – 3.65 g – 34 mm – 12 h This is the second-highest grade! PCGS MS62 (58337224). No variant or mint mark. Wide die. The fields are barely corroded beneath a light grey patina. Rare. Superb.
