Constitution (1791–1792). Monneron, ‘French Patriots’ series, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, by R. Dumarest, undated (late 1791?), Birmingham.
Obverse: J. JACQUES ROUSSEAU, BORN IN GENEVA IN 1712. His bust facing left, with the signature ‘DUMAREST’ below. F.
Reverse: THE SOCIAL CONTRACT, BOOK 3, CHAPTER 1. Inscription in five lines: POWER / LEGISLATIVE / BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE / AND CAN BELONG / ONLY TO THEM.

A medal from late 1791, in the size of the ‘monnaies de confiance’ (trust coins) produced by the Monneron brothers, which forms part of the ‘Français patriotes’ series, of which only two designs were ever issued: Rousseau and La Fayette, engraved by Rambert Dumarest
