Consulate (1799–1804). An attempt by Gengembre to refine the coins, dated Year 8 of the Revolution (1800), Paris.
Obverse: Circular legend with the dates 1789 and 1[8]69 in retrograde script and a series of 8 broken lines running horizontally; inner legend with the numerals 6969 in retrograde script and a series of 8 broken lines (broken chains); in the centre, a circle of the number 7 and, right in the centre, a circle of the number 8.
Reverse: In the centre, in six lines: L'AN 8 / PH. GENGEMBRE / ESSAYAIT DE / PERFECTIONNER / LES / MONNAIES.
