First Empire / Napoleon I (1804–1814). Single-sided trial (draft) of the reverse of a 10-centime coin featuring a crowned ‘N’, by Tiolier ND (1807), A, Paris.
Obverse: Single-sided.
Reverse: Border with a crown formed of two laurel branches in intaglio. Centre: 10 / CENT. / (variant) (mint mark) and cursive signature N. Tiolier.
Maz.- - VG.- - Théret/Taillard - ; Lead - 1.28 g - 19 mm - 12 h
This proof by Nicolas Tiolier is struck in lead, with gilded backgrounds (lead containing 3 per cent gallium). Probably an early design for the 10 centimes billon coin (G.190), with some notable differences. Appears to be missing from all reference works. Unique? Very Good to Superb.
