FRANCE - FRANCE First Empire / Napoleon I (1804–1814). Trial strike in solid case using the Salneuve process, for the Mint of the King of Holland in Utrecht, Special Strike (SP) MDCCCVIII (1808), Paris. Obverse. In six lines: TRIAL PIECE / STRUCK / IN A SOLID RING / USING THE / SALNEUVE / PROCESS. Reverse. In seven lines: UNDER THE / BALANCERS / INTENDED / FOR THE COINS / OF HIS MAJESTY THE KING / OF HOLLAND / (date). Obverse: G.- - Maz.609a v. (deeply hollowed) - VG.1557 v. (deeply hollowed) - Théret/Taillard 1510.c.2; Bronze – 22.09 g – 38 mm – 6 h Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! PCGS SP64BN (58336817). Special Strike (SP). The measured diameter is exactly 38 mm, with a smooth edge. A brown patina covers the fields, with traces of the original red colour remaining around the inscriptions. Superb in Proof condition.
