FRANCE - FRANCE Louis XVIII (1814–1824). 40-franc trial coin, 1815 competition, first competition, by Tiolier 1815, A, Paris. Obverse: * LOUIS * XVIII * KING * - * OF * FRANCE *. Crowned bust, in coronation robes, facing right; below, signature N. TIOLIER and (rooster). Reverse: Within a wreath formed of two laurel branches, the crowned shield of France, flanked by 40 - FR; (date) below and in the exergue (mint mark). G.1090d – Maz. – (cf. 722) – VG. – (cf. 2428) – Théret/Taillard 2043.a.COP v.; Bronzed pewter – 8.45 g – 26 mm – 12 o’clock In bronzed pewter, with a smooth edge. Two dents behind the bust. A small defect on the rim at 1 o’clock. Beautiful dark patina. Superb.
