FRANCE - FRANCE Louis XVIII (1814–1824). Trial coin of a demi-sou (2½ centimes), 1817, Paris. Obverse: LOUIS XVIII – KING OF FRANCE. Bare head facing right; below: ESSAI. Rev. In three lines: DEMI / SOU / (date). G.110b - Maz.757 v. - VG.2488 v. - Théret/Taillard 2001.3 = this specimen! ; Gilded bronze – 4.2 g – 21.8 mm – 6 h From a Palombo auction, 5–7 June 2008, lot no. 540. This is the specimen illustrated in *Le Franc, Louis XVIII*, p. 259. In gilded bronze, with a guilloché edge. A special strike featuring a matt bust on the obverse. Very rare. Superb, in mint condition.
