FRANCE - FRANCE Louis XVIII (1814–1824). 5-franc coin, the Duke of Berry’s visit to the Lille Mint, first reverse design 1814, Lille. Obverse: LOUIS XVIII KING - OF FRANCE. Dressed bust of Louis XVIII facing left, with the signature ‘TIOLIER F.’ below. Reverse. In the field, beneath three lilies: ‘H.R.H./ His Grace THE DUKE/ OF BERRY/ VISITS THE MINT/ OF LILLE ON 5 AUGUST/ 1814’. G.592a – Maz.802b – VG.2371 v. – Théret/Taillard 2709.a.2; Silver – 24.98 g – 37 mm – 6 h Struck with the obverse and edge in intaglio: (lily) DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Metal defect beneath the chin. This is the first reverse featuring capital letters and two dots beneath ‘MGR’. Slight finishing marks on the obverse. Slightly cleaned. Superb, in mint condition.
