FRANCE - FRANCE Louis XVIII (1814–1824). 5-franc set, visit by the Duke of Berry to the Lille Mint, second reverse design, Special Strike (SP) 1814, Lille. Obverse: LOUIS XVIII KING OF FRANCE. Clothed bust of Louis XVIII facing left, with the signature ‘TIOLIER F.’ below. Rev. In the field, beneath three lilies: ‘H.R.H./ His Grace THE DUKE/ OF BERRY/ VISITS THE MINT/ OF LILLE ON 5 AUGUST/ 1814’. G.592b – Maz.802b – VG.- (see 2371, Ag) – Théret/Taillard 2709.b.3; Copper – 16.8 g – 37 mm – 12 h Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! PCGS SP63RB (58336937). Medal strike with a smooth edge. This is the second reverse design featuring text in all capital letters and a dot beneath ‘MGR’. A brown patina is forming over the original red colour, which is still clearly visible. Superb in proof condition.
