Charles X (1824–1830). Obverse trial strike, portrait competition for the 5-franc coin, by Barre, Special Strike (SP) undated (1824–1825), Paris.
Obverse: CHARLES X KING - OF FRANCE. Bare head facing left; below, signature BARRE F.
Reverse: Within a wreath formed of two laurel branches, the crowned monogram of Henry II and Diane de Poitiers.

Special Strike (SP). A rare variety with a reverse featuring not the monogram of Charles X (Théret/Taillard p.310) but that of Henry II and Diane de Poitiers (HDD). Minimal signs of wear and handling. Superb.
