Convention (1792–1795). Galle’s ‘Essai de Galle à la Liberté’, a heavy coin with a thick flan, by A. Galle, 1792 – Year I, Paris.
Obverse: LIBERTE FRANÇOISE. Bust of Liberty facing left against a pike surmounted by a Phrygian cap, signed GALLE and below L’AN I. DE LA R. F.
Reverse. Within an oak wreath: TO THE NATIONAL CONVENTION BY THE UNITED ARTISTS OF LYON. PURE BELL METAL STRUCK IN MDCCXCII.

Beautiful cast, well centred, barely cleaned in the fields and with a light patina forming. Superb in mint condition.
By André Galle (1761–1844), this was his first work upon his arrival in Paris, cast from the bronze of the bells
