Louis XVIII (1814–1824). 5 francs, bare-chested bust, misstruck coin (Broadstruck) 1817, W, Lille.
Obverse: LOUIS XVIII ROI – DE FRANCE. Bare head facing left, with the signature ‘MICHAUT F.’ and a horse’s head below.
Rev. Crowned coat of arms of France, flanked by ‘5 - F’, between two laurel branches, with (variant) (date) (mint) below.

Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! From the MDC 8 sale, lot 781, and previously the Burgan sale of January 2021: “A curious coin on a very large blank, probably over-struck onto another coin. Bernard Poindessault thought it might be a trial strike?”.
PCGS MS62 (51855322).
Traces of a broken die on the obverse. A very surprising flattened strike, with a diameter of 39.5 mm instead of 37 mm! The blank is slightly thinner, with the mould lines rising slightly, particularly on the reverse. The edge is perfectly engraved. With a grey patina. Superb in Proof condition.
