Reverse: SAINT HELENA 5 MAY – MDCCCXXI, laureate bust of Napoleon I, lying on his deathbed; in the exergue: I WISH MY ASHES TO REST/ ON THE BANKS OF THE SEINE,/ AMIDST THIS FRENCH PEOPLE/ WHOM I HAVE LOVED SO DEARLY; signed DEPAULIS F. Reverse: H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF JOINVILLE, COMMANDER OF THE EXPEDITION, The steamship La Normandie passing under the Rouen bridge; in the exergue: PASSAGE AT ROUEN/ OF THE MORTAL REMAINS/ OF EMPEROR NAPOLEON/ ON 10 DECEMBER MDCCCXL. Br.1980 – Ess.1687; Vermeil – 129.9 g – 63 mm – 12 h Hallmarks (bow) SILVER: struck between 1842 and 1845, in gilded silver or vermeil. Slight hairline scratches on the fields. With a patina showing golden-brown highlights in the inscriptions. Superb, in mint condition.
