Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). Pair of single-sided gilt bronze trial coins, 50 francs, bare head, by Albert Barre, burnished blank (PROOF) 1855, A, Paris.
Obverse: NAPOLEON III – EMPEREUR. Bare head facing right; below (variant) BARRE.
Rev. EMPIRE – FRANÇAIS. Imperial coat of arms resting on a crowned mantle and resting upon the sceptre and the hand of justice, flanked by 100 – FRs; below (mint) (date) (variant).

On burnished blanks (PROOF) with smooth edges. Pair of single-sided trial coins in gilded bronze, with the inscriptions ‘50 F’ (mirror image) on the obverse and ‘50. F. ÉPREUVE / 1855’ on the reverse. Slight fingerprints and scuff marks. Golden patina. Superb, mint condition.
