Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). Pair of single-sided gilt bronze trial coins of 20 francs, bare head, by Albert Barre, Special Strikes (SP) 1856, A, Paris. Obv. NAPOLEON III – EMPEREUR. Bare head facing right; below (variant) BARRE (variant). Rev. EMPIRE FRANÇAIS. Within a wreath formed of two branches: 20 FRANCS (date) and below (mint mark). G.1061 - Maz.1611b - VG.3464; Gilded bronze – 3.17 g and 3.23 g – 21 mm – 6 h PCGS SP62 and SP63 (56278478 and 56278477). Special strikes (SP). Pair of gilded bronze strikes, with a smooth edge, featuring [20 F] in reverse on the reverse. The fields are slightly scuffed, with hairlines. Beautiful golden patina. Superb, in mint condition.
