Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). 5-franc bare-headed trial coin, by Bouvet, Special Strike (SP) 1853, Paris. Obverse: NAPOLEON III BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND THE NATIONAL WILL. Bare head facing left, with the signature ‘BOUVET F.’ below. Reverse: EMPEROR OF THE FRENCH. Imperial coat of arms resting on a crowned mantle and crossing the sceptre and the hand of justice, flanked by 5 - F; below (date). G.731 – Maz.1635 – VG.3326; Silver – 37 mm – 6 h PCGS SP62 (32615987). Special strike (SP) with a smooth edge. Some minor excess metal in the form of burrs on the scroll on the obverse (struck with a die in the process of breaking). Only a few hairline marks in the fields and a pleasant patina. Superb in Proof condition.
