Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). Five-franc bare-headed trial coin, by Bouvet, Special Strike (SP) 1853, Paris. Obverse: NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR. Bare head facing left; below, signature BOUVET F and (variant) (date) (variant). Rev. EMPIRE - FRANÇAIS. Imperial coat of arms resting on a crowned mantling and crossing the sceptre and the hand of justice, with (mint mark) to the left; below, CINQ FRANCS. G.733 - Maz.1640 - VG.3334; Silver - 37 mm - 6 h This is the second-highest grade! PCGS SP61 (32615989). Special strike (SP) with a raised edge. A minor flaw in the blank behind the head and the eagle poorly positioned in the strike on the reverse (the die appears to be like this on all examples). Minimal handling marks and hairline scratches. Very rare. Superb in Proof condition.
