FRANCE - FRANCE Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). Proof of the ten-centime bare-headed coin on a mild steel (or iron) blank, 1853, B, Rouen. Obverse: NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR / (variant) (date) (variant). Bare head facing left, with the signature ‘BARRE’ below. Rev. EMPIRE FRANÇAIS / * DIX CENTIMES *. Eagle with outspread wings, head to the right, on a thunderbolt; below (mint mark). G.248 (silver?) - Maz.1694c (nickel silver) – VG.3353 (nickel silver); Steel – 30 mm – 6 h Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! With an old collector’s label. NGC MS 63 (6979009-007). Struck on a magnetic blank of iron or mild steel. The strike is somewhat weak on the high reliefs, which are poorly defined. A few spots of rust corrosion. Very rare.
