Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). Proof of the ten-centime bare-headed coin on a mild steel (or iron) blank, 1853, B, Rouen.
Obverse: NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR / (variant) (date) (variant). Bare head facing left, with the signature ‘BARRE’ below.
Rev. EMPIRE FRANÇAIS / * DIX CENTIMES *. Eagle with outspread wings, head to the right, on a thunderbolt; below (mint mark).

Struck on a magnetic blank of iron or mild steel. The strike is somewhat weak on the high reliefs, which are poorly defined. A few spots of rust corrosion. Very rare. Superb in proof condition.
