Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). Pair of single-sided gilt bronze trial coins of 100 francs, featuring a laureate head (obverse) and a bare-headed head (reverse), by Albert Barre, burnished blank (PROOF) 1855 [1862] and 1855 [1855], A, Paris.
Obv. NAPOLEON III – EMPEREUR. Laureate head facing right, below (varying) BARRE.
Rev. EMPIRE – FRANÇAIS. Imperial coat of arms resting on a crowned mantling and surmounting the sceptre and the hand of justice, flanked by 100 – FRs; below (mint) (date) (variant).

On burnished blanks (PROOF) with smooth edges. Pair of single-sided trial coins in gilded bronze, with the inscriptions AB / EPREUVE / 100. F. / 1855 (sic!) on the reverse: a combination of a obverse featuring a laureated head from [1862] and a reverse, bare-headed type, from 1855. Slight fingerprints. Golden patina. Superb, mint condition.
