FRANCE - FRANCE Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). 50 francs, laureate head, 1866, BB, Strasbourg. Obverse: NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR. Laureate head facing right, with ‘différent’ below and the signature ‘BARRE’. Rev. EMPIRE FRANÇAIS. Imperial coat of arms resting on a crowned mantling and surmounting the sceptre and the mace of justice, flanked by ‘50 – FR’; below (mint mark) (date) (variant). G.1112 – F.548 – Fr.583; Gold – 16.1 g – 28 mm – 6 h Top Pop: this is the finest graded specimen! NGC MS 64+ (8527948-002). With a matt velvety finish on the surfaces, barely touched on the high reliefs and minimal signs of handling. Superb in mint condition.
