FRANCE - FRANCE Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). 20-franc trial coin with laureate head, designed by Albert Barre, Special Strike (SP) 1861, Paris. Obverse: NAPOLEON III – EMPEREUR. Bare head facing right; below (star) BARRE. Rev. EMPIRE FRANÇAIS. Imperial coat of arms resting on a crowned mantle and surmounting the sceptre and the hand of justice, flanked by 20 – FR; below (star) (date) (anchor). G.1062 – Maz.1613 – VG.3577; Gold – 6.31 g – 21 mm – 6 h This is the second-highest grade! From the collection of Louis Teller in October 1999, then the collection of Dr Lawrence A. Adams, Classical Numismatic Group auction, Triton XIX, 5 January 2016, lot 2346. PCGS SP66 (60810773). Special Strike (SP) with a smooth edge.
