FRANCE - FRANCE Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). Small medal commemorating the birth of the Imperial Prince, by Borrel 1856 (c. 1860), Paris. Obverse: NAPOLEON EUG. L. J. JOS. - IMPERIAL PRINCE. Bust facing left; below, signature BORREL. Reverse. In five lines in the field: BORN / IN / PARIS / 16 MARCH / 1856. Divo.297 - Coll.1724; Silver - 8.16 g - 25 mm - 12 h Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! NGC MS 62 (8769692-002). Hallmarks (hand-stamped) SILVER. With a collector’s patina. Fingerprints. Superb. Napoleon Eugène Louis Jean Joseph Bonaparte, Imperial Prince, was born on 16 March 1856 in Paris. Known as Louis to his parents, he signed his name as Napoleon following his father’s death in 1873. He lived in England with his parents from 1870 onwards. He was a pupil at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, between 1872 and 1875, and died on 1 June 1879 in Zululand.
