Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Third Republic (1870–1940). Medal, ‘Young Blind People’ by Hippolyte Lefebvre, SAMF No. 47, 1902, Paris. Obverse: A group of young blind people gathered around a musician; in the exergue, the inscription ‘1902’ and ‘HIPPOLYTE LEFEBVRE’. Reverse: A young blind girl, accompanied by her guide dog, knocks on the door of the INSTITUTION FOR BLIND YOUNG PEOPLE; below, the signature ‘HIPPOLYTE LEFEBVRE/ 1902’. Maier 18; Silver – 154.34 g – 69 mm – 12 h On the edge, hallmarks (horn) SILVER (lizard) and number 47. Only 93 copies were struck in silver and distributed to members of the Société des Amis de la Médaille Française. Previously cleaned, with a patina forming. Superb.
