Third Republic (1870–1940). Medal, ‘Tender Lovers, Happy Spouses’ by Albert Bartholomé, SAMF No. 26 1905, Paris.
Obverse A young couple in love, shown from the waist up, in a wheat field; signed A Bartholomé.
Reverse. Within a floral frame, a musical score: ‘Adorn your brows with fresh flowers, tender lovers, happy spouses!’ from the opera *Alceste* by the composer Gluck.
Maier 32; Silver – 200.25 g – 81 mm – 12 h
On the edge, hallmarks (horn) ARGENT (lizard) and number 26. Only 76 copies were struck in silver and distributed to members of the Société des Amis de la Médaille Française.
Previously cleaned, with a patina forming. Minor marks. Superb.
