Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Third Republic (1870–1940). Medal, ‘Tender Lovers, Happy Spouses’ by Albert Bartholomé, SAMF No. 76 1905, Paris. Obverse A young couple in love, shown from the waist up, in a wheat field; signed A Bartholomé. Reverse. Within a floral frame, the libretto: ‘Adorn your brows with fresh flowers, tender lovers, happy spouses!’ from the opera *Alceste* by the composer Gluck. Maier 32; Bronze – 194 g – 81 mm – 12 h From the collection of Nicolas Maier. On the edge, hallmarks (horn) BRONZE (lizard) and number 76. Only 119 copies were struck in bronze and distributed to members of the Société des Amis de la Médaille Française. With a lovely, slightly matt patina. Superb, in mint condition.
