Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Third Republic (1870–1940). Medal depicting miners and a firedamp explosion, by Henri Greber, SAMF No. 29, 1906, Paris. Obverse: THE MINE. Miners at work in a mine tunnel; signed H. GREBER. Reverse: THE FIRE. A miner caught in a firedamp explosion in a mine tunnel; signed H. GREBER. Maier 36; Silver – 155.6 g – 72 mm – 12 h On the edge: hallmarks (horn) 1ARGENT (lizard) and number 29. Only 69 examples were struck in silver and distributed to members of the Société des Amis de la Médaille Française. In a later case. A chip on the rim at 6 o’clock on the reverse; otherwise Superb, nearly mint.
