Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Third Republic (1870–1940). 25-centime trial coin, Patey 2nd type, lobed edge, in nickel, 1908, Paris. Obverse: RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Draped and cuirassed bust of the Republic facing left, wearing the cap of Liberty adorned with two laurel branches; signed A. PATEY. Reverse: 25 CENTIMES and ESSAI. Lictor’s fasces on a two-branched oak branch, below (variant) (date) (variant). GEM.63.5; Nickel – 5.82 g – 25 mm – 6 h Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! From the MDC 5 auction, lot no. 663. NGC MS 67 (8772188-041). Special strike on a twelve-lobed nickel blank. In its mint state with the strike texture barely visible. Extremely rare, with only one specimen recorded by Taillard and Arnaud! Mint state.
