Third Republic (1870–1940). 20-franc Turin nickel trial coin, small die and smooth edge, Special Strike (SP) 1938, Paris.
Obverse: REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Head of the Republic facing right, wearing the cap of Liberty and a laurel wreath; below, the signature P. TURIN.
Reverse: Between two ears of corn: 20 FRANCS (variant) (date) (variant) and LIBERTE/ EGALITE/ FRATERNITE; in the exergue ESSAI.

Special strike (SP) in nickel, with a reduced module and a smooth edge as described in Mazard. Circular polishing marks are visible. With a slightly oxidised grey patina. Superb in Proof condition.
