Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Third Republic (1870–1940). Trial coinage in the 5-franc Hercules size, after Dupré, Special Strike (SP) 18-- (1929), Paris. Obverse: LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ. Hercules standing facing forward with the lion’s mane, uniting Liberty, standing on the left holding a pike surmounted by a Phrygian cap, and Equality, standing on the right, holding a spirit level. In the exergue, Dupré’s cursive signature. Reverse: RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE *. Within a wreath formed of an olive branch and an oak branch: 5 FRANCS and 18-- (no variants or mint marks). GEM.132.1 - Maz.2612; Nickel – 37 mm – 6 h PCGS SP64 (54192449). Special Strike (SP). Nickel strike trial, probably for the 20 francs Turin issue. Close to its original condition, with its mint luster barely touched and only a few scratches on the reverse. Almost Proof.
