Third Republic (1870–1940). Trial coinage in the 5-franc Hercules denomination, based on Dupré 18-- (1929), Paris.
Obverse: LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ. Hercules standing facing forward with the lion’s skin, uniting Liberty, standing on the left holding a pike surmounted by a Phrygian cap, and Equality, standing on the right, holding a spirit level. In the exergue, Dupré’s cursive signature.
Reverse: RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE *. Within a wreath formed of an olive branch and an oak branch: 5 FRANCS and 18-- (no variants or mint mark).
