Third Republic (1870–1940). 5-franc Vezien aluminium trial coin, burnished blank (PROOF) 1933, Paris.
Obverse: REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Head of the Republic facing left, wearing a cockade and a Phrygian cap, between two cartouches featuring an olive branch and an oak branch; signed E. J. VEZIEN.
Reverse: Three cartouches with olive and oak branches and a fourth bearing the (date) at the bottom. In the centre, beneath a bunch of grapes and above two ears of corn: (variant) 5 (variant) FRANCS and ESSAI.

On a burnished (PROOF) blank with matt satin-finish relief and mirror-finish fields, in recesses. A tiny metal defect in the 5 on the reverse. Only a few fingerprints and hairline scratches. Superb in mint condition.
