French State (1940–1944). Pre-series 1-franc aluminium coin, with crosses on the besants surrounding the word ‘PATRIE’, Special Strike (SP) 1942, Paris.
Obverse: ETAT FRANÇAIS. Marshal’s baton tied with two franciscan knots, flanked by two ears of corn; signature LB.
Rev. .TRAVAIL. FAMILLE./ .PATRIE. Between two oak branches: 1 and below .FRANC. (variant) (date) (variant).

Special strike (SP). With small raised crosses on the besants around ‘PATRIE’: this is the type proof or pre-series, for the first few thousand specimens struck. Proof condition.
Guilloteau, p.495, reports that “in the first few thousand of the two aforementioned coins [NB: 50 centimes and 1 franc 1942], the aluminium strikes feature a small cross in relief on the two dots before and after the word ·PATRIE·”
