Description
FRANCE - FRANCE French State (1940–1944). 50-centime Pétain trial coin in silver-plated bronze, fluted edge, ND (1941), Paris. Obverse: Bust of Marshal Pétain facing left, with collar and signature ‘L. BAZOR’. Reverse: ‘ETAT FRANÇAIS’. A francisque between two ears of corn; monogram ‘LB’ and ‘ESSAI’ at the top. GEM.85.2 - Maz.- - VG.-; Silver-plated bronze - 3.38 g - 18 mm - 6 h Top Pop: this is the only graded example! From the Carl F. Chirico collection, Bowers and Merena auction, 28 February to 1 March 2008 (lot no. 5632). NGC MS 64 (8772187-011). Special strike, with a fluted edge. Only a few fingerprints on the fields. Superb in Mint Condition.
