French State (1940–1944). 50-centime Pétain aluminium trial coin, hybrid with ‘Travail Famille Patrie’ reverse, 1942, Paris.
Obverse: Bust of Marshal Pétain facing left, with collar and signature L. BAZOR.
Reverse: .TRAVAIL. FAMILLE./ .PATRIE. Between two oak branches: 50 and below CENTIMES / (date); ‘ESSAI’ above ‘50’.

A special coin strike, without the usual variations, and heavy in weight, struck on a fairly thick aluminium blank (1.4 mm). Only minimal signs of handling, with a slight patina. Very rare! Superb in Proof condition.
