Description
GREAT BRITAIN Henry VI of England (1422–1461). Gold noble, ‘ND’ ringed issue (1422–1430), London. Obv. H-ENRIC (variant) DI’. GRA’. REX. ANGL. Z. FRANC. DNS. HYB, punctuated by a lily followed by small shamrocks. The King standing face-on in a nave, holding a raised sword and a shield. Reverse (variant) Ih’C* AVT’° TRANSIENS° PER° MEDIVM° ILLORV’° IBAT, punctuated by a star followed by annulets. A leafed and fleur-de-lis cross flanked by four crowned leopards, with an ‘h’ in the centre, within an octolobe flanked by seven small shamrocks and a small ring. S.1799 - Fr.112; Gold - 6.92 g - 33.7 mm - 5 h NGC UNC DETAILS REV SPOT REMOVED (8772184-009). Featuring a small ring to the left of the sword on the obverse, an initial ‘L’ and a small ring with seven trefoils on the reverse, as well as a five-pointed star (mullet) after ‘IhC’. A fine strike, well centred, with slight wear and a pleasant golden patina. Superb.
