GREAT BRITAIN Victoria (1837–1901). Gold Medal, Queen’s Jubilee, by L. C. Wyon, J. E. Boehm and F. Leighton, with a proof-like finish, 1887, London. Obverse: VICTORIA REGINA – ET IMPERATRIX. Veiled and crowned bust facing left; signature J.E.B. Reverse: IN COMMEMORATION. On a dais, a royal allegory seated facing forwards on a throne, holding a globe surmounted by a figure of Victory and a sceptre, with a lion behind. Around her, allegories of Science, Literature, the Arts, Industry and Agriculture; Mercury reclining on the ground with a genius holding a radiant globe to the right. In the sky, two angels hold a crown bearing V - R I and escutcheons bearing MDCCCXXXVII and MDCCCLXXXVII. In the exergue, five escutcheons inscribed: ASIA / AMERICA / EUROPE / AUSTRAL ASIA / AFRICA; signed F.L. BHM 3219 – Eimer 1733a; Gold – 82.21 g – 58.5 mm – 12 h With its original red imitation-leather case, bearing the kingdom’s coat of arms. Appears as a proof-like finish (PROOFLIKE). Minimal handling marks and hairline scratches. The coin is slightly warped (BENT). Only 994 copies were struck.
