GREAT BRITAIN Victoria (1837–1901). Silver medal, Queen’s Jubilee, by L. C. Wyon, J. E. Boehm and F. Leighton, 1887, London. Obverse: VICTORIA REGINA – ET IMPERATRIX. Veiled and crowned bust facing left; signature J.E.B. Reverse: IN COMMEMORATION. On a dais, an allegory of the British Empire seated facing the viewer on a throne, before the sea, holding a globe surmounted by a figure of Victory and a sceptre, with a lion behind. Around the edge, allegories of Science, Literature, the Arts, Industry and Agriculture; Mercury reclining on the ground with a genius holding a radiant globe to the right. In the sky, two angels hold a crown bearing V - R I and escutcheons bearing MDCCCXXXVII and MDCCCLXXXVII. In the exergue, five escutcheons inscribed: ASIA / AMERICA / EUROPE / AUSTRAL ASIA / AFRICA; signature F.L. BHM 3219 – Eimer 1733b; Silver – 215.75 g – 77 mm - 12 o’clock With its original red imitation-leather case bearing the kingdom’s coat of arms and a period printed leaflet describing the medal. NGC MS 61 (8772192-001). Special strike with satin-finish relief and mirror-finish fields. Minimal hairline scratches in the fields and fingerprints. The patina is bluish on the obverse and shiny on the reverse. Superb in proof condition.
